Transportation

Airports

  • South Bend International Airport (SBN): Conveniently located about 15 minutes from campus, SBN offers direct flights from several major hubs, making it an ideal choice for conference attendees.

  • Chicago Airports: Both O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Midway International Airport (MDW) are approximately 90 miles from South Bend. Travel between Chicago and Notre Dame requires additional transportation, so plan accordingly.

Train and Bus Options

  • Amtrak: Amtrak offers service to and from South Bend via its Lake Shore Limited and Capitol Limited routes, providing a convenient option for travelers connecting from cities like Chicago, Cleveland, or Washington, D.C.

  • The South Shore Line: This train connects South Bend to downtown Chicago. This commuter rail is an affordable and scenic option, with the South Bend station located near the airport.

  • Intercity Buses: Greyhound and other carriers provide bus service to South Bend from nearby cities. Check schedules in advance as routes may vary.

Local Transportation

  • Rideshare Apps (Uber/Lyft): While Uber and Lyft are available in the South Bend area, they can be unpredictable and may have longer wait times or limited availability, especially during peak hours or busy weekends.

  • Taxis: Traditional taxi services are also limited in the area. We recommend pre-booking a taxi in advance to ensure reliable transportation. Options include South Bend Taxi Services, United Cab, and Eagle Cab.

  • Car Rentals: For added flexibility, consider renting a car at South Bend International Airport or from other nearby rental locations.

We encourage you to plan your transportation ahead of time to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience during your visit.
